The design is based on a stained glass piece by astronomers David Law and Nora Luetzgendorf. Nora created the graphic design, including the rainbow tessellations filling the iconic JWST mirrors, and David made the original stained glass piece, which now hangs in the lobby of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, also the home of the JWST Mission Operations Center.
