Celebrate the Hubble Space Telescope with its 31st launch anniversary image release, the "celebrity star" AG Carinae! The star about 70 times more massive than the Sun and surrounded by an expanding shell of gas and dust that is five light-years across. A rare type of star known as a luminous blue variable, AG Carinae will eventually explore as a supernova. The image was made using observations in four filters at ultraviolet and visible wavelengths of light. The star is located in the Milky Way Galaxy about 20,000 light-years from Earth, toward the southern constellation of Carina.
